CORNWALL FREELANCER WINS INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARD
A freelance digital designer from Cornwall has won an international design award, for his work designing and building the website Club Of The Waves.
Andrew Couldwell, from Falmouth in Cornwall, won the People’s Champ Award at the 2010 Pixel Awards in the Art Category. Each category has two winners, an expert panel of judges decides one winner, and the second winner is decided by a public vote. The combined number of votes for all of the People’s Champ winners was over 35,000.
The Pixel Awards are a cutting-edge, international website design award, annually honouring compelling sites that have shown excellence in web design and development. They are based in California and feature entries from all over the world including the UK, Canada, North America, Belarus, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.
Andrew designed and built the website www.clubofthewaves.com, which is the online home of surfing, surf art, photography and culture.
Andrew has also worked with big brands such as NASA, Nike, Facebook, Myspace, Teenage Cancer Trust and the University College Falmouth.
Andrew said: “The website has been online since 2006, but was totally re-branded, designed, built and ‘relaunched’ in September 2010, so it’s great that it’s picked up an award so soon! The Pixel Awards’ nominations include some big U.S. agencies like Method, Odopod, Firstborn, JUXT Interactive and JESS3, so personally, for me, it’s great just to be listed amongst them, even nicer to be voted the ‘People’s Champ’. More than anything though, what’s really great about this award, is the recognition it gets the website’s incredibly talented and hard-working featured surf artists and photographers, which is really what it’s all about!”
Andrew is a member of Cornwall Design Forum, which is part of the South West Design Forum.
