The Media & Innovation Awards 2011 are run in association with Creatvice Industries (Innovation Networks) www.intets-sw.co.uk

The Media & Innovation Awards will celebrate and honour the very best creative and innovative work produced by media and design companies during 2010. This year the awards will be held in Plymouth, on the 9th June.

Businesses from across the South West are being urged to enter the competition, which opens for entries on the 4th January and will close on the 31st January. It is open to all members of West of England Design Forum, South West Music Forum, South West Screen, Creative Bath and Bristol Media. You can enter online or download an entry pack from www.mediainnovationawards.com. Media and design companies and their clients can enter up to five categories and nominate for the new talent and outstanding contribution awards.

The Media & Innovation Awards will also run alongside a two-day conference and a showcase event to be held at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. The conference is expected to attract major international speakers, and will be a valuable tool for anyone looking to grow their creative business. Full details of the conference programme will be released later in the New Year.

Karen Stockdale, from the Media & Innovation Awards said: “We are delighted to be hosting a major international event in the South West, that will enable us to put the spotlight on the world-class creative companies based in the region.””

Mytton Williams, who are based in Bath, have won two awards for their innovative work. In 2010 they won with their Pencil Calendar in the Print Graphics category. Bob Mytton describes the project: “Our clients always look forward to our annual ‘take’ on the calendar theme. Our starting point was a ‘back to basics’ idea where we wanted to create something using the designer’s most important tool, the pencil. From this initial idea the concept of a tactile, interactive pencil calendar developed.”

Entering the competition allowed Mytton Williams to showcase their lesser known work to a wider audience, Bob says: ”It drew attention to the creative and brand design aspects of our business and being able to publicise the Pencil Calendar win was a good opportunity for us to showcase one of our more unusual and creative projects.”

And the benefits of running are numerous too: “In our experience, being an award winning company makes a difference as it can help to inspire confidence in new and existing clients. Entering and winning competitions also boosts studio morale”, says Bob.
