Media and design companies and their clients can enter up to five categories and nominate for the new talent and outstanding contribution awards.

The Media & Innovation Awards will also run alongside a two-day conference and a showcase event to be held at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. The conference is expected to attract major international speakers, and will be a valuable tool for anyone looking to grow their creative business. Full details of the conference programme will be released later in the New Year.

Karen Stockdale, from the Media & Innovation Awards said: “We are delighted to be hosting a major international event in the South West, that will enable us to put the spotlight on the world-class creative companies based in the region.”

Sequoia Films won at the 2010 awards, Sari Stories was the winning entry in the TV category. A film about women’s contemporary rural life in southern India, it was broadcast by Al Jazeera English. Producer and Director Sue Sudbury asked the Indian women to film their everyday lives and then used this footage alongside her own to produce a unique view on life in India.

Sue says: “This award has made me realise the importance of being innovative and it is important to feel that the work you do has recognition. Very often television documentaries are produced in a vacuum. Winning awards is a very valuable way to achieve recognition and reward for the hard work involved.”

Sue has been able to demonstrate how the award has benefitted her company: “It has given a lot of credibility to my work and raised my profile as a producer/director. Recently I attended the Guangzhou Documentary Festival in China and was asked to make a presentation about my company’s work and it was very good to be able to mention this award.”

Sue continues: “It is very important that innovative and creative work being produced in the region is being recognised in this way.”
