A student from Arts University College Bournemouth who is taking part in the South West Design Forum’s Design Buddy initiative, is part of a new collective of visual communication students to encourage other students to be more pro-active in getting their work seen by industry professionals.
Sophia Taglialavore, a student on the Design Buddy initiative, has joined forces with fellow students Michael Frost, James Marriot, Richard Moody and Sam Halpin to create This is.
The first exhibition takes place on Tuesday 23rd November, at Sixty Million Postcards in Bournemouth from 6pm-1am, entrance is free.
This is will be holding events on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Sixty Million Postcards in Bournemouth. Each event will include an exhibition of students work, a sale of screen-printed t-shirts and posters, bands, DJs, pop-up shops and installation artwork. It is also a chance to network with and meet the talent of tomorrow.
The events are open to everyone, in particular anyone who is already working in the industry and would like to commission new talent.
Mike Frost, one of the collective who set up This is, said: “This Is encourages students to work independently from their studies and become proactive in self-promotion. We install incentive by selling students work, and a successful sale leads to assurance in the prospects of employment.”
The events will each have a theme, with the first one being Nautical Nonsense. Students who wish to enter their work into the exhibition must pay £10, and they will receive all the proceeds from the sale of their work.
